P-51 Mustang

"Flying Dutchman"

Owned&Flown By Dr.Norm Lewis 1996

This P-51 is painted exactly as that of Bob Goebel, World War II Ace, who flew the original P-51 with the 308th Fighter Squadron from Italy and Sicily in WW II.  Dr. Norm Lewis flies to an airshow most every weekend during the summer months, and displays the aircraft at the Kentucky Aviation Museum, at Bowman Field, Louisville, Kentucky.

During World War II, the 308thFighter Squadron, part of the 31st Fighter Group (known as the "Peppermint Group" because of the red and white diagonal stripes painted on the tail of its planes) adopted the letter recognition scheme from the British to distinguish the different squadron's aircraft
