Captain Yamon and 2nd LT. Colmbo flew as a winged pair on a long range escort mission along with other elements of the 31st Fighter Group. For 2 hours these two men fought off Luftwaffe Fw190s and Me109s, while always remaining with the bombers. At the conclusion of the mission both pilots survived and landed their Mustangs.
For his action and support 2nd LT Colmbo is awarded the Air Medal
